Where to See Dolphins on Kiawah Island

Captain Sam’s Inlet

Touted as the spot for dolphin viewing, Captain Sam’s Inlet is located at the end of Beachwalker County Park between Kiawah and Seabrook Island. Here, dolphins often congregate to feed, a unique sight not many people are able to witness. If you want the best chance of seeing the dolphins while they’re eating, head to Captain Sam’s Inlet two hours before or after low tide. Sometimes you may be lucky enough to see the dolphins strand feed, which is when the animals guide a school or fish or shrimp towards land, then jump out from the water to eat their prey.

Beachwalker County Park

Spanning 10 miles of shore, the Beachwalker Park on Kiawah Island is one of the best places to see dolphins. If you choose to spend a day lounging on the sand, you’ll likely to see a dolphin or even a pod of dolphins swim by on their way to their next destination. Though it is much less likely you’ll witness the dolphins feeding here, you still may have the opportunity to get in the water as they pass by.

Kiawah Dolphin Tour

A number of companies on Kiawah Island offer boat tours to try and spot these beautiful creatures. Embark on an hour-and-a-half to two-hour tour and enjoy a day on the water. Captain Jack’s Kiawah Sailing and Dolphin Watching is an excellent way to see dolphins during your trip. Running eco dolphin tours since 1991, Captain Jack knows the best places to find dolphins. If you’re interested in another boat tour, he also offers day sails and sunset tours, which offer more opportunities to spot dolphins along the island.
